Women’s Auxiliary: The Sisterhood
The Congregation Beit Yaakov is far more than a place of prayer; it’s a full-fledged family that embraces men, women, and children alike. We strive to make the Beit Knesset a place for every family member to feel welcome. An integral component of our congregation is the Women’s Auxiliary, fondly known as the Sisterhood, a vibrant and supportive community of women.
Overseen by Mrs. Rivka Soffer and Mrs. Sara Attar, two dynamic and passionate leaders, the Sisterhood fosters a sense of camaraderie among the congregation’s women. The Sisterhood offers support and assistance to new mothers and those experiencing challenging situations, promotes strong relationships among its members, and generates exciting programs and events throughout the year, creating an environment of friendship and inspiration. We encourage all women to join our Sisterhood and contribute their talents, spirit, and presence to our loving community.

Israeli Kiruv
Program
Since its inception, Congregation Beit Yaakov has served as a home for Israeli individuals and families living or visiting the United States. Natives of Israel discover a sense of belonging and camaraderie in our Beit Knesset.
In the late 1990s, the Israel Program was established as a means of inspiration and healing after the tragic passing of Israeli member Aryeh Avrahami. A group of Hebrew-speaking members and affiliates gathered for a class, giving the deceased’s family an opportunity to say Kaddish. The class, which was originally intended to meet for a month, continued weekly until the end of the year; upon the completion of the year, there was another tragic incident that led to the loss of another Israeli member, Shia Freezner.
The ”one month” of classes never ended, and the Israeli Kiruv Program continues to flourish to this day.
Every Wednesday night, our Israeli members and friends – men, women, and children – join together for an evening of support, companionship, and connection. The shiur begins at 8pm and consists of half an hour of halacha or Mesilat Yesharim and half an hour of Parasha. Upon the conclusion of the shiur, attendees congregate for a free dinner where they socialize, network, and savor a small piece of home in a Torah-infused environment.
Additionally, a Hebrew-language Gemara shiur is given daily. All shiurim are recorded and available online.
In our enclave of Israeli culture and comfort, like-minded individuals and families enjoy time together and support each other through major life events as they draw Jews closer to home. Shiurim and dinner may be dedicated in memory of loved ones.
